Daniel Lee Jones

My Story

MyStoryMain

Daniel was born and raised on the western side of New York State, just south of Lake Ontario, near the Erie Canal.  At a young age he showed great interest in music, both singing and playing instruments.  High School found him involved in concert band, jazz band, marching band, color guard, swim team as well as multiple jobs on area farms..

Daniel earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education and performance from Ithaca College (Ithaca, NY) where he majored on saxophone and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Daniel presented many recitals and won numerous awards and honors for his achievements while at Ithaca.

Following his passion to be a music teacher, Daniel taught at various levels and areas of music in New York State during his career.  Through the years, his ensembles would travel all over the United States, receiving awards and accolades on the concert stage, the marching field, the performance gym and would even lead him to conduct his group at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City.  Daniel was named the New York State Teacher of the Year in 2007, as well as two-time Educator of the Week from News Channel 13 in Albany. Music was a way for him to bring people together and to make them better people. He dedicated his life to this mantra.

Though teaching was his first priority, Daniel did find time to perform in a variety of different scenarios.  These included conducting and playing (woodwind book) for countless musical pit orchestras, playing in big bands, singing with multiple ensembles, starring in musical productions, performing with the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Albany Symphony and even with the Temptations.  These experiences would enrich his life and expand his knowledge and appreciation of people, different cultures, and of course, music.

After 32 years of passionate service to his students, school and community, Daniel retired in 2022.  It was a month later that he and his husband would move to Spain to open a piano bar/speakeasy on the Costa del Sol.  They live near Malaga with their two cats, one of which is the namesake for their bar.

Daniel has made himself available to perform professionally in Spain. In his short time on the Costa del Sol, Daniel has established himself as a top-notch saxophonist, clarinetist, flutist and vocalist.  Frequently performing in bars, hotels, restaurants, private events and weddings, Daniel enjoys customizing his playlist to his clients, always learning new music to add to his already vast repertoire.

Music does bring people together. It allows us to experience the same emotions.
People everywhere are the same in heart and spirit. No matter what language we speak, what color we are, the form of our politics or the expression of our love and our faith, music proves: We are the same.”

“Music is the great uniter. An incredible force. Something that people who differ on everything
